Policy Hour

Policy Hour is a monthly opportunity for early childhood and school-age care professionals to connect with each other and learn about current policy issues in an informal setting. 

Policy Hour is held the first Tuesday of each month, October 2017-June 2018, from Noon-1:00 p.m. at Think Small (2021 East Hennepin Avenue, LL20, Minneapolis, MN 55413). 

Bring your lunch. Invite your friends, co-workers, and colleagues. No RSVP is required.

Join us on Tuesday, October 3 for the first Policy Hour of the new season! After a long, drawn out session, there were a number of policy initiatives that passed that impact early childhood, including a new program called School Readiness Plus. The Minnesota Department of Education will give us an update on this program, as well as Voluntary Pre-K and answer our questions.

Join us on Tuesday, November 7th (election day!) for another look at policy initiatives that passed last session that impact early childhood and after school, this time featuring staff from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Learn more about changes to child care licensing and the new certification for school-age programs,, the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), and how Minnesota is implementing the new Child Care and Development Block grant requirements.

Join us for Policy Hour on Tuesday, December 5, for a discussion on the early childhood workforce efforts both nationally and here in Minnesota. Learn more about NAEYC’s Power to the Profession project, the B8’s Transforming Minnesota’s Early Childhood Workforce project and Minnesota’s work with the National Governors Association (NGA) to identify Strategies to Improve ECE Compensation. In addition, there will be opportunities to find out about how you can contribute to the conversation.
